The world greatest swimmers fight for the title of the 2012 King and Queen of the Sea

Brazil's most challenging marathon swimming event will take place for the fourth time on the 15th and 16th of December. Running, swimming, biathlon and stand up paddle are the 1st day competitions. This stage also has the King and Queen of the Sea 'Elite Challenge' 2012, were the most elite open water swimmers - amongst them Olympic medalists and world champions - will compete at the event considered by the world's sports press as one of the best swim marathon competitions in the world. Posto 5, at Copacabana beach, where the Olympic Games will host the same modality in 2016, will receive the most challenging test of the year, with a course that promises a lot of adrenalin, with a 4km swim and 200 m sprint on the beach.


The King and Queen of the Sea began with the Leme to Pontal challenge, in which the Brazilian swimmer Luiz Lima swam the 35 kilometers that separate the Leme and Pontal beaches along the coast of Rio de Janeiro. After completing the challenge, one of the longest open water tests in Brazil in 2008, Luiz received the trident of the King of the Sea.
